This is what I call news! I switched over to The Hindu very recently.. and before I knew it, my decision was totally right[for a change, coz I’m not actually used to it you see].
Remember some ‘Geetanjali Nagpal’? Yes! That super model of yester years whom drugs annihilated, perhaps suicidally. Whatever! Why do we have to care so much? This was not the only case of drug abuse witnessed. And there are still zillions of acute despondent people, living in all the more acute penury. Why do news-paperwallahs bring that into forefront, if they so much want to do the social work. Just cheap, desperate and probably “glamorous” publicity stunt.
Compare that to this. One of finest avant-garde our country has ever produced, was awarded ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ at the age of 97.. and how many cameras were flashing blinding light? Possibly, just one! And hence I got the pic, and hence you’re reading. There are very very few things published in newspapers which strike a cord really deep down, and that too instantaneously! This was definitely the one for me.
I’ll not say much. Rather you’ve to comment much, or say, or at the least think.

Why do people with initials ‘SR’ keep on repudiating me? 😦
He definitely deserved it..for his irony, wit, the insight…for creating the ‘Common Man’ who represents the mute Indians..for bringing a smile to our faces every morning…!!
🙂
I like it, that u’ve put this up here on ur blog!!
Bravo!!
P.S:Sorry morning ke liye..Power cut!!:-(
I wish I had taken somewhat same decision..
Anyways it was another story which moved from rags to riches, and media had to make some issue out of it since that’s what sells buddy!
So no1’s to be blamed and in fact! the deserving got what the deserved…
i heard the Hindu has great cross words too. true?
@ Prachi
Thank You. But I think you didn’t get my point exactly. I guess I wasn’t too explicit in the post itself. My point is just to bring in to notice the kind of news we get, vis-a-vis to the kind of news we’d really like to get.
Can we even think of juxtaposing some Geetanjali against Mr. RK Laxman? And yet, media was all gaga over her and nobody even cared to take note of him.
Personally, I was really moved by seeing a 97 old year old man.. who could not even stand on his feet break down so vehemently.
P.S- I don’t mind such things 🙂
@ Sachi
Please refer to above comment for further clarifications. I’ll also like to tell media people .. they have already made enough of money, now if they will publish something substantial just for the sake of their professional ethics, that will really not affect them much. Will it?
@ Nidhi
Oh Yes! True! Very Very. Perhaps you’d like to solve one sometimes with me? 😉
yeah sure why not 😀
ahem ..you might want to change that to ‘Gitanjali’.
Not because I’m being dramatically possessive about anything that sounds similar (which I could be, but not just now/here) ..because that’s how she actually spells herself.
And dude! What’s with all the ab-meri-aankhein-khul-rahi-hain play off late! Doesn’t sound all in good order ..!
PS: I like the hint of Venice on the top.
@ Nidhi
I’m very much looking forward to..
@ Vertigo Head
I think I do not want to change anything. Do we care inasmuch how she spells!
Jab jaago tabhi savera, i.e, its never too late to begun. 🙂
It isn’t Venice, it is Netherlands 😛
